Best modern, prolific suspense / mystery writer?
Please recommend a modern suspense / mystery writer who’s written many books. Criteria that must be met, please:
- Not too many subplots or characters
- Addicting
- Unpredictable
- Likeable (preferably funny) main character
- Satisfying endings
- Easy to follow plot, but not written for idiots, either
I would love to find an author who’s written many books I can enjoy for months. I USED TO love Nelson DeMille, for example. His earlier works were fabulous. Now I hesitate to read his books because his endings seems rushed and contrived. Robert B. Parker is great too, and I’ve enjoyed some Pattersons as well. I’m looking for something new and TOTALLY “can’t-put-down-ish.”
I am currently reading Michael Connelly. I am so-so on his Harry Bosch series so far. I find them a little hard to follow – not sure why.
I just want suspense novels that are readily accessible, intriguing, unpredictable, addicting, and somewhat easy to follow. Is that too much to ask?
