Hannibal Thomas Harris

Was the book “Hannibal” by Thomas Harris a sequel to the movie or the book “The Silence of the Lambs”?
I remember when the book “Hannibal” came out and I was disappointed because I felt that it was more of a sequel to the movie instead of the book especially because I had read the “Silence of the Lambs” a few weeks before “Hannibal” came out. But I was just reading the synopsis of “Hannibal” at wikipedia and there was no mention of this at all. So I am left to wonder if I was wrong about this.

Hannibal (Film) $105.14 Hannibal is a 2001 psychological horror film directed by Ridley Scott, adapted from the Thomas Harris novel of the same name. Set ten years after The Silence of the Lambs, the premise is that Hannibal Lecters only surviving victim, the extremely wealthy Mason Verger, is determined to capture, torture, and kill him. The films locations alternate between Italy and the United States. Hannibal was the highly anticipated sequel to 1991s Academy Awardwinning The Silence of the Lambs, which introduced Hannibal Lecter to mainstream moviegoing audiences (though the character was first portrayed by Brian Cox in the 1986 film, Manhunter, based on Harris novel, Red Dragon). The Silence of the Lambs became only the third film in history to receive Academy Awards for Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and screenplay adaptation. The character of Hannibal Lecter became a household name and part of popular culture. The bumpy development of Hannibal drew a large amount of attention, with Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme, screenwriter Ted Tally and actress Jodie Foster all eventually declining involvement. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 162 Publication Date: 2010/04/21 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.37 inches |

Hannibal Rising $81.25 Hannibal Rising is a suspense novel by Thomas Harris, a prequel to his three previous books following the misadventures of his most iconic creation, the sociopathic, murderous cannibal and exforensic psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The novel was released on December 5, 2006 with an initial printing of at least 1.5 million copies and met with a mixed critical response. Audiobook versions have also been released, with Harris reading the text. Lecter is eight years old at the beginning of the novel 1941, living in Lecter Castle in Lithuania, when Operation Barbarossa, Hitlers invasion of the Soviet Union, turns the Baltic region into a part of the bloodiest front line of World War II. Lecter, his sister Mischa and his parents escape to the familys hunting lodge in the woods to elude the advancing German troops. After three years, the Nazis are finally driven out of the countries now occupied by the Soviet Union. During their retreat, however, they destroy a Soviet tank that had stopped at the Lecter familys lodge looking for water. The explosion kills everyone but Lecter and Mischa.
