What was the liquid which harry collected from snape in Harry Potter Deathly hallows. What happend too it?
In Harry Potter the Last book (deathly hallows), towards the end Harry collected some liquid from dying snapes and snape said something what did this mean and what happend to the liquid. P.S this book is the best book in the series by far. I couldnt put it down, but this last bit just confused me. Maybe its obvious, thanks 4 the replys
The substance (important to remember it is neither liquid nor gas) is Severus Snape’s memories. When he is dying, he releases them in order for Harry to capture them in that bottle conjured up by Hermione. At that point, we aren’t a hundred percent sure those are memories, but when Harry goes to the Headmaster’s Office and pulls out the Pensieve, he drops the substance in there. He then goes into the Pensieve and views a lot of Snape’s past.
There is one obvious reason that Snape gives Harry those memories and two that I’m guessing. The obvious one is that he had to pass on Dumbledore’s message to Harry, about having to sacrifice himself and letting Voldemort kill him. Dumbledore specifically tells Snape in the memory that he must tell Harry this when the time comes that Voldemort is protecting his snake, Nagini. Now, it isn’t clear whether Dumbledore meant for Snape to give him the memory or simply to tell him, but there are two reasons the memory is necessary. First of all, Snape is DYING. He can barely talk, so how is he supposed to SPEAK to Harry and deliver the message? The most he can do is pass on that memory. Secondly, would Harry believe him if he just told him that he was supposed to go let himself die? Harry had always hated Snape, especially after he seemingly murdered Dumbledore, so I highly doubt he would listen to him and not think it’s all a trick. Therefore, it was essential Snape give him the entire memory so he can see for himself where Snape’s loyalties lie. And finally, I think Snape could have just given Harry that specific memory, but a whole entire FLASK was filled with so many memories, because I believe Snape wanted Harry to know he wasn’t bad. Whereas everyone else on the good side got appreciation and recognition for what they were doing, even when they died (Fred, Dobby, Lupin, Tonks, Mad-Eye, etc.), everyone always thought Snape was on Voldemort’s side, except for Dumbledore. Snape never ever received all that gratitude, and of course, it wasn’t like he was doing it for that anyway. I think he wanted Harry to know the whole story, and maybe had even picked out these memories to show him from before.
In addition, at the Shrieking Shack, I think Snape was telling Voldemort to let him go find Harry in order to avoid being killed (for the Elder Wand) and also so that he could go and warn Harry and give him Dumbledore’s message of having to get himself killed.
And lastly, just a side point, I believe (and I didn’t come up with this on my own) that Snape asked Harry to look at him one last time before he died so that he could see his eyes, which were the exact same as Lily Evans’/Potter’s.
I also thought it was kind of cool how Harry even bothered to approach the dying Snape; it solved a lot of the plot!
