Social communication Groups for children and adolescents:
SpeechClarity offers small group therapy
to improve social interaction with peers. Children with autistic
spectrum disorders, language disorders, attention deficit
disorders and nonverbal learning disorders would benefit from
specialized training to interact socially with other children.
Depending on the ages, these groups are composed of two to
four children. Each group is designed to allow children to
learn and practice peer interaction skills. Lindall McMichael,
a licensed speech language pathologist facilitates the groups
by scripting language and modeling behaviors through age appropriate
games, conversation and activities. Activities address specific
social language skills such as generating appropriate topics
of conversations, ways to initiate, maintain and end interactions,
interpreting jokes and slang and understanding and using non-verbal
communication effectively.

Breakfast Buddies and Lunch Bunch social groups:
With the cooperation of your child’s school, SpeechClarity
can hold social groups at your child’s school in his/her
natural environment at home. There might be other children
with difficulties in the area of social skills who would benefit
from the social group as well. Sometimes a clinical therapy
room isn’t the most natural environment for your child
to practice and learn social communication skills. Please
contact SpeechClarity for information about how to arrange
this unique service for your child. |
